About Magda.

Born in Germany, Magda first studied piano and pedagogy at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, then took up vocal studies in London and New York with Amanda Roocroft, Malena Malas, Arthur Levy and Sophie Koch.

From New York she established her singing career across North America, with guest appearances at New York City Opera, Odyssey Opera Boston, Opera Carolina, Grand Rapids Opera, Kentucky Opera and Seattle Opera. Since the pandemic she has explored Dramatic Soprano repertoire — the fach in which she feels most at home today.

The Press

In review.

The opera's true heart was Mezzo-Soprano Magda Gartner… With a voice that could brush the ground and kiss the stratosphere, Gartner's vocalism and acting alike conveyed the horror of living under siege.
The Boston Globe · Zoe Madonna
Mezzo Magda Gartner showed a weighty middle voice and piercing top as La Aurora and her emotional connection to the lyricism of 'Ay Amor' made it the most memorable aria of the evening.
